Another mom in one of my groups started a discussion about this fantastic little kit & I knew Matias would totally be on board! How cool is it that we will be growing our own butterflies?!?!
And now I am officially addicted to that site. I want to grow my own lily pad!! I want to grow my own ladybugs!! I want a frog hatchery kit!! But I do NOT want an earthworm nursery!! (thanks, but no thanks) I want a praying mantis pagoda (!) with live egg case!!

Another rousing edition of "Dude, if I cry about this..."
In today's special report on "Dude, if I cry about this...", Mama will expound on her beaming pride over her child going in the bouncy Princess castle all on his own.
Liamis not has not been a fan of the inflatables. Truth be told, I think they must be overwhelming to kids; they are loud, big & enclosed. Not to mention the giant 7 year olds running in and out of them non-stop. Fear of being trampled is a legitimate fear, people.
But today, today we went in all by ourselves. Multiple times! I went in with him twice and then he just up and climbed in and bouncy-bounced around and threw himself out on his own. And then proceeded to climb back in again!
I believe 3 is the magic number for Liam; it takes him 3 visits to have a go at it on his own (and enjoy it. Cause let's face it, he didn't enjoy being tossed in there with me), it takes him 3 classes before harnessing the idea of Circle time, etc. etc.
I am so proud of him. And yes, I did tear up standing outside that pink Princess castle. My little boy did it all on his own. Yes, that just might be lame (don't you even say PMS to me right now) but this little independent boy of ours is growing up & I LOVE IT! I love the high fives I was getting when he would come out instead of the NO!NO!MAMA! of yesteryear and Koala Kling to my mid-section.
So I bought him a Twizzler snack pack from the vending machine on our way out :)

XTREME! Peek-a-Boo!
Liam & I went to the park this morning to burn off some steam, we went alone cause he's got some productive sneezes & I didn't want to get anyone from our Mommies Groups infected possibly also...
...so he's tromping around; playing with his sticks & twigs & rocks and every single other thing that Little Boys play with when all of a sudden he spies an ant scurrying around underfoot.
He points to it innocently & I tell him it's an ant, then he tries to pick it up, which Hello? how Little Boy can he be all at once? But anyway, I tell him no, leave him be & he does, until XTREME! Peek-a-Boo! goes into effect!
He steps on the ant! and then, this is the best part & my best story I've gotten in a good few days or so... he lifts his foot up and says PEEK-a-BOO! and slams his foot back down!
Poor ant, never saw it coming. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he had smushed the ant in his XTREME! PEEK-a-BOO! playing and all I could do at that point is just laugh, because seriously, that's some funny Fellow Antics right there.

Jenga Master is definitely in his future
Liam is becoming quite adept at stacking his blocks - he can now stack 4-5 consistently & correctly!
He has two favored methods for knocking them down for sure though...one being the Full Body Throw Down where he just walks straight into the tower like a little Godzilla and knocks them down with his face first then goes crazy swinging his limbs all over the place. The second method he uses, I like to call the Jenga Master Method - he will poke every so gently at the top 1 or 2 box, get one of those down, walk a 1/4 of the way around the tower, pick his next block to knock down & slowly poke at that one to get it down. By then the remaining blocks are usually a free for all and he just goes nutso on breaking those down. But those first few are very well executed Jenga Master Method style.
This morning he did really well with stacking them back up - he discovered that the larger ones will fit over the smaller ones but also decided that this was not what he wanted to accomplish & would remove the smaller one & replace it with the larger (correct) one! And he would continue doing this on his own for about 4-5 more breakdowns & setups!

What sound does an airplane make?
Liam will mimic the airplanes going over head (hi! Dulles landing pattern!) by making a "swoooooosh" sound - just like the engines preparing for landing :)
Working on the "woo-woo" that a train makes (hi! VRE station/CSX tracks down the street!) - it's coming to him slowly!
Pretty sure he "meowed" yesterday but the jury is still out on that one since he could have just been over excited while tackling his PIC (Partner in Crime) to the ground.
Last night in the bath, I hummed a gibberish song to him while I bathed him & he started humming back. He's mastered the "la la la" sounds & we are now working on the "ba ba ba" sounds. Matias just looked up at me, with this wonderment on his face when Liam would repeat back to me the stanzas I had hummed to him. Sometimes we do that while he's playing or eating - he hums something to me & I repeat it back, and so on and so forth. I really enjoy doing that with him for many reasons. One, how cute is a humming Toddler? Two, it means he's listening. Three, it means he's paying attention to what I'm actually saying. All of those things are really cool to me & I try to encourage it as much as possible. Nothing he utters or hums goes unnoticed (or at least I try to notice it all) because at this point, beyond his actual vocabulary, this is he sole means of communication & to ignore that, I think, would be a determent to his speech evolution.
Another "cute" thing is that whenever anyone gets their purse or something out of their purse he immediately thinks we are going in the car. And then proceeds to ask to go "car?" and goes over to the gate and sometimes he even goes and gets his diaper bag. Like a dog, you must sometimes spell the words (ALREADY?!?!) for "go out", "car" & "walk" so that you do not give Liam the wrong impression that we are actually, at this exact moment in time, going out to the car to get his stroller to go for a walk.
He has also started doing more than just clanging the pots & pans around - he now "stirs" things with spoons & dunks bottles and such into his pots & pans! WAY cute! So now, I'm on a mad search for nice, cheap, play kitchen (I think I found one, just need to "justify" spending the money for it...) to entertain him so that I do not have to clean up His Drawer 45279064 times a day. How cute is this imaginary play business?
I also chase him with his giraffe from his train set he got for Christmas...and he LOVES it. He will now go and get the giraffe & bring him to me then take off at full speed to get away from the giraffe. My son will be the only one afraid of giraffes at the zoo.
But he will also be the only one meowing at the monkeys.

Another Twist on an Old Game
Yesterday Liam started (and let me try & graphically describe this properly...) adding a new twist to peek-a-boo (aka Where's Liam?)...
Now he covers his eyes completely with his hands, palms turned out towards us & squints his eyes closed BUT he does peek every now & then to see if we are playing along!
At first, I thought he was rubbing his eyes cause he was tired but then he would whip his hands away and make a BOO sound & smile aplenty - only took Mama about 2 times to figure out it was a new variation of an old game :)
He had Naked Dinner last night because he leaked through his clothes right before meal time & I wasn't about to feed him with some clean jammies on since it's been getting a little messy these days with all the attempts at self feeding!

New Game

I have a BUNCH of updating to do, cue the title...
But I do want to add that today, for like the 5th time or so Liam climbed up the stairs unassisted.
We have video of it that I have to upload to drop shots later...and a note about the stairs & baby gates...
He CLOSES the gates himself whenever we ask him or if he sees that they aren't shut. I'm convinced he's keeping the cats out/playing a game with them and doesn't quite grasp that they are to keep HIM out of harms' way. It's really cute - he ZOOM!ZOOM! over there & SLAMS the gates shut & THEN stands up and browbeats the cats :)
AND he's added a new word to his vocab - Book! We were having the hardest time figuring out his "toddleresse" but I think Matias nailed it with "book", I was thinking "bird" but I'm quite sure that's not it :)
AND he's got ANOTHER TEEFIE! That makes SEVEN. SEVEN? Yes, SEVEN. It's another upper & I'm still waiting on some lowers to come in - I think they are _rightthere_ waiting to come through.
Ok enough one-liners for now - I owe you a 11th Month GushFest you know! And we have to measure him against our Ghetto Growth Chart for his 11 MONTHS MEASUREMENT.

The Fit over the CDs
I'm uploading the video of Liam having his little fit (poor little guy) over the CDs not being books. Yes, I laugh at him & maybe I shouldn't but, come on, sometimes these things are funny!
For the record, putting it on my head has totally stopped the mini-meltdown (as far as Liam Meltdowns go, this is pretty bad for him) so I will continue to balance them on my head.

Creative Parenting
For those of you who will surely run into this problem soon enough, I offer the following advice.
When your child freaks out & cries for 40 minutes because the CD is not a BOOK and then brings you more CDs to read the next morning, simply put the CDs on your head!
Then wait for them to bring you more & see how many you can balance at once. Right now, I'm only up to two at a time. I'm sure I'll get a ton more practice in my coming days. In fact, I'm typing this with two CDs on my head. I'm totally not even kidding.

Two new games we like to play
I finally hunted down a spare keyboard (doesn't everyone have one in their garage?) and gave it to Liam to play with on the ottomans & he cannot get enough :) Actually, his favorite thing to do is grab my hand & make me go crazy typing away - he sways back & forth, laughs & finally joins in & slams away himself!
His next new game to play is with my office chair - it's on wheels & he will stand at it & WALK with it! He gets a big kick out of this too & smiles as wide as possible and is quite proud of himself :)
I think it's only a wee matter of time before he's doing it without the chair - of course I'll try & get video but like the dancing he usually stops & comes after the camera when I turn it on. Stinker.
P.S. You can see pictures of him playing with his keyboard on dropshots - I'll get some of us playing together this weekend. It's in the top set of pictures with the "helping in the yard" title - we took a lot of pictures/videos that day it seems :)

Thanks a lot, god.
One of my LEAST favorite things my niece did when she was a baby was to chase me around grinding her teeth. I CANNOT stand that sound and now Liam is doing it. With all four teeth that he has in his mouth.
Is this ok for him to be doing so young? Do I need to take him to the dentist? How do you communicate to a 10 month old to stop grinding your stinking teefies before you make your beloved Mama lose her ever-loving mind?

Three Things Thursday
Today is now officially Three Things Thursday!
Here are Three TOTALLY adorable new Things Liam is doing now that I will tell you about TODAY, Thursday!
1) He initiates playing Peek-a-Boo with me. More specifically he takes my hand and covers his face - I can still see his eyes behind/between my fingers & you can SEE the smile in his eyes. He's so excited to play with me! Then he pushes my hand away & just GIGGLES. It's just so cute! Liam is also playing Peek-a-Boo around the house - just about any place he can Peek around he does and laughs and grins when Mommy says "where's Liam gone?" followed by a very hearty "there he is!!"
2) Matias taught Liam how to give High Fives - although the first couple times he did it Liam cried - don't ask, we don't know either! I practiced with him the next day during meals & now he gives them whenever you ask - again - TOO CUTE! Just don't ask when he's too busy ZOOM!ZOOM! around somewhere cause he'll pretty much ignore everything you say to him. I'm trying to get Matias to ask for a High Five when he leaves for work so that they can have a little something they do when he leaves since he always gets upset when Daddy goes to work & I think it would just be a neat little thing they do - it would make him happy & maybe not so sad that Daddy has actually left. Cause you know, Daddies are the New Elvis' - he leaves the building & all the people cry.
3) The last thing he is initiating & attempting to do on his own is (for lack of a better description) is the Indian Sound - you know the one you hold your hand up to your mouth and make a noise? Except he makes the noise without his hand there - he just alters his voice & smiles. So I either put my hand there & his hand to help him along. He will also make this sound though when you just jiggle him & I usually only jiggle him when I'm attempting to tickle him so now tickling & Indian Sound are like Siamese Twins these days.
I think that's about it for cute, new Liam things for this Thursday! And yes, I still owe you GushFest & hopefully I will get to that tomorrow or at least before he turns 10 months ;)

New Game & more sleep talk
I have a new game I play with Liam in the evening that I like to call "Mommy can scream louder than you!"
He LOVES it. He squeals and tries to hit all these new pitches that he is discovering and then I scream louder than him and he goes crazy. It's the simple things, really, that keep our kid happy, isnt it?
Matias could not really get over this little interaction we had going on because it's normally played as we wait for him to get home - that horrible, almost melt-down , bored you Mommy, where the devil is Daddy time - and nothing else keeps him occupied. So we have a ton of pictures & possibly even video of it all because he is that funny.
Last night was one of the roughest for our little Fellow. To preface this though I must add that Mommy & Daddy went to bed late after watching a movie (The Devil wears Prada) and then some episodes of SATC (season 5) that we have recently 'acquired'. And by late, I mean 2am. I was up with him from 3am-5am and then Matias was up with him from 5am-6:30. I didnt realize he had gotten up & was even missing out of the bed until we discussed his poor sleeping this morning. We just moved his nursing chair into his room & that saved both of us last night as we rocked him (and probably snoozed a little ourselves) in his room without bringing him into ours and possibly waking the other up. But the little guy was so uncomfortable. He had been up prior to the early AM times too - at like 10pm he woke up and nursed for a LONG time - this was after having 4 oz. of carrots and cereal after his last nursing that evening. I could not believe he was hungry again, but hungry again he was. He slept until about 8:30am so we probably have a combined total of 5 hours sleep MAYBE for him & more like 3 hours sleep for each Mommy & Daddy. Matias asked me what was wrong this morning cause my eyes were all red, he thought I had been crying - exhaustion, sweetie.
We are going to Target today to get his NEW car seat & some Motrin. I'm not a believer in medicating your kid to make them sleep/behave but I do hope that it brings some relief to him & allows him to rest. We plan on going after his nap & I'm interested to see how long he is out for today. Yesterday he didnt take 2 hour + naps but I had someone over to Crop so I'm thinking we might have messed with his sleep since we are located right under his room...
It will be nice to be able to talk about something other than naps & sleep schedules though! And it would also be nice for Liam to realize that you cannot really successfully fall asleep sitting up.

And by late, I mean 2am. I was up with him from 3am-5am and then Matias was up with him from 5am-6:30. I didnt realize he had gotten up & was even missing out of the bed until we discussed his poor sleeping this morning. We just moved his nursing chair into his room & that saved both of us last night as we rocked him (and probably snoozed a little ourselves) in his room without bringing him into ours and possibly waking the other up. But the little guy was so uncomfortable. He had been up prior to the early AM times too - at like 10pm he woke up and nursed for a LONG time - this was after having 4 oz. of carrots and cereal after his last nursing that evening. I could not believe he was hungry again, but hungry again he was. He slept until about 8:30am so we probably have a combined total of 5 hours sleep MAYBE for him & more like 3 hours sleep for each Mommy & Daddy. Matias asked me what was wrong this morning cause my eyes were all red, he thought I had been crying - exhaustion, sweetie.
We are going to Target today to get his NEW car seat & some Motrin. I'm not a believer in medicating your kid to make them sleep/behave but I do hope that it brings some relief to him & allows him to rest. We plan on going after his nap & I'm interested to see how long he is out for today. Yesterday he didnt take 2 hour + naps but I had someone over to Crop so I'm thinking we might have messed with his sleep since we are located right under his room...
It will be nice to be able to talk about something other than naps & sleep schedules though! And it would also be nice for Liam to realize that you cannot really successfully fall asleep sitting up.
