Thanksgiving

Matias & I had a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

My parents were coming into town to celebrate our First Turkey Cooking and to official christen the new china from our wedding. We decided to tell them over our Thanksgiving toast that we are pregnant.

Matias started off by saying that it was two years ago to the date that he had asked for my hand in marriage and then added that this year we thought we would mark the occasion by telling them we were trying to get pregnant. At this point, I started to sweat & my mom just looked at me and I could tell she started to sweat so I continued the conversation. I said that we must have been trying really hard and were very good at what we were doing because we ARE pregnant!!

Grandma & Grandpa were very shocked to say the least :) But estatic none-the-less!! First thing out of my mother's mouth was "no more wine for you!" I only had one glass and that was all I planned. I also have stopped smoking (although that day was a nervous anxious day for me so I smoked more than I had alloted myself - I think a total of 4) so that pleased them :)

The meal itself was to die for - Matias' turkey was unbelievable and we are still talking about the gravy!

I'm starting to really show all the symptoms these days - nausea, fatigue, heartburn and the lovely gas (from both ends...) but for me these are all good signs of a healthy pregnancy. Something of course, I worry about daily and almost non-stop as is expected with me.

We discussed names and both boy and girl names were readily approved and even some tears were shed over them. I wont spill the beans here but the middles names are family names and the first name that Matias picked for a boy was a form of, unbeknownest to me, my grandfather's middle name. I think we'll stick with that one :)

I called my sister to tell her cause I didnt think it was fair to tell my mom and then send her home without being able to talk about it with my sister. I am not planning on telling my brother until Christmas but that might change since I'm starting to feel guilty about not including him with everyone else - or maybe that's just the hormones talking ;)

Friday found me queasy and hungry. I think I'm eating about 4 meals a day. And I'm trying really hard to eat all my veggies and drink all my water - I've stocked up on V8 juice since that counts for two servings per 8 ounce serving & the water doesnt seem to be giving me heartburn although just about everything else does. I'm pee-ing a little more than often (TMI??), I've never been one to have to get up in the middle of the night to pee but lo-and-behold, I'm staggering to the bathroom already - cant wait till when this really sets in!! HA!

Everyonce and a while, I freak out and focus on what we are doing - like saving for a college fund, no more vacations on the spur of the moment, probably no more Gorge...those things, you know? Matias asked how old would the baby have to be to go to shows - priorities people!! My mom said not to worry about it that Grandpa can babysit while we all go to the shows :)

We went out for a bit on Friday but I got tired about two hours into and just wanted to head home and be "fatigued" on the couch. Which is exactly what we did. We watched a movie and went to bed. Mom bought me my First Pregnancy Books & Journal :)

Saturday, found me getting sick from one cigarette and believing that I had quit smoking for good. Not a fun feeling, at all. We ventured out again and I made it a little longer that day but quickly hit my stopping point and simply had to say "it's time to head home" - everyone was more than willing to comply with my wishes - that's definitely a plus to being pregnant ;) We had a great dinner of homemade turkey soup and leftovers while watching another movie - we turned on the new George Carlin but I quickly feel asleep once again.

Sunday, Matias made a fabulous breakfast & we got ready to send my parents on their way home. We finished up some things we had to get done together (burn CDs, finish journaling an album I was comissioned by my mom to make...) & then they were on their way.

Hugs & kisses abounded and many WOWs and What a Thanksgiving Surprise :)

I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, which goes against my intention of keeping this journal but, alas, the nausea is coming back and I'm damn tired after my first full day of work in 4 days...

But let me leave you with this - y'all will NOT be calling me Mamma.

:) Happy Thanksgiving!!

5 Weeks & 1 day

That's how old our baby was yesterday when I called the doctor for the first time!!

Now, of course, he is 5 Weeks & 2 Days!! And yes, I'm feeling like we are having a boy, dont ask.

We are beyond thrilled in this household. Names are being thrown about and thrown out (!). Houses are being searched for. Finances are being re-done. Dreams are being spawned. We are over the moon.

And I now have symptoms. Dont ask. It must have something to do with knowing I'm pregnant and all of a sudden feeling pregnant.

I have food aversions (sushi). I can smell citrus from 100 yards away. I know why I was feeling car sick now on the bus. And the heartburn that can only be cured with Tic Tacs? Explained. I'm tired a lot of the time but I thought that was just having a couple busy weekends in a row...

And my husband, is the bestest husband in the whole wide world. He's so sweet and attentive and caring and nagging (already). cause let's not forget who has to quite smoking, drinking and coffee...MY THREE FAVORITE THINGS TO DO!!!

Matias is quitting also (at least around me and in the house since being in the car with two smokers yesterday nearly killed me) and he's only drinking until I say "that's not fair anymore" - which might be rather quickly since we now have 5 bottles of wine in the house for Thanksgiving with my family. I'm still ok with making him coffee as long as he makes me tea :)

I called the doctor and made my first appointment and had my OB Nurse phone consultation...all very exciting!! It's all very exciting and scary at the same time though. I can feel things happening to me and I'm constantly worried that it's not supposed to be happening...but what can I expect? It's not like I've experienced this before, you know? All I can say is I'm definitely pregnant. WOW. It's still weird to say that. Matias has called me his "pregnany wife" and I think I've called him "daddy" once or twice. Of course, it's still sinking in...

Last night after dinner, he asked me what else I wanted to eat :) And then I feel asleep before he had my hot cocoa made. Whoops!

I do worry about telling my parents though. They know we didnt plan on having kids so I am not sure how they will react when they realize we arent pulling their legs. I dont want my mom to be disappointed with us or me. But I have to tell them because otherwise I would feel like I'm lying to them PLUS what will they say when I'm not smoking or drinking and possibly having food aversions?!??!!? Yeah, it's going to get obvious soon folks.

I'm not going to make this blog public until people have been told and we are probably waiting until after the holidays or our first ultrasound (maybe at 10 weeks)...but you know, I'm not sure how to handle the DMB Winter tour coming up...

Ok hold on. OUR BABY WILL BE GOING TO SHOWS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

I will tell LeNelle when I go to Boston, but I have to tell her in person so that's why I'm waiting...on special people :) All the Regular Folks will just have to wait!! I think it might make a good NYE 1 Year Anniversary SURPRISE Announcement to everyone!!

Last but not least, in my eyes...it snowed last night. For me that was a good sign. The First Snow of the Season. Less than a day after we find out we are pregnant.

The Pee Test.

I called Matias to ask him to pick up a pregnancy test on his way home since I was about a week late with my period. He was thrilled! Said it sounded exciting!!

I had not been feeling much different up until that point but all that would change the coming days...

My breasts had been sore, but that usually accompanies PMS for me, but when I was late, I knew it could also mean something more. Plus, the mere fact that I hadnt gotten my period, you know.

When I came home that night I was waiting until Liza had come over to pick up a spare CM Kit that she needed before taking The Test. But when she called to say she wouldnt be coming over that night, I knew it was time to take it right then.

I read all the directions, a few times, and then headed in hoping not to pee on my hand.
The directions said that it would take up to 3 minutes to have a response and maybe sooner (but I have no idea why) so when I came back into the room and was telling Matias what we were waiting for and when I turned to pick it up to show him it said PREGNANT. !!!!!!

Matias grabbed me and hugged me and kissed me and said CONGRATULATIONS!!! And we just started talking about everything and anything. I was nearly in tears but not bad tears - I have no problem keeping this baby & I am quite happy & thrilled myself to be pregnant (!!!).

Even though this is a surprise and not something we had planned, Matias & I had always talked and agreed that what ever happened happened and that we would do nothing to change that.

So, we're having a baby!!!
