Funny Pregnancy Story #1
I found an awesome deal on some maternity jeans this weekend at Motherhood (shut up they are REALLY comfortable!!) and was being rung up, right?
So they go through all these questions, like due date, number of kids, want to be on mailing list, etc. etc., right?
Then she hands me this “goodie bag” (you’d be surprised how much free swag you get from stores and doctor’s offices…it’s like trick or treating for pregnant folks!) and my bag with my purchase in it and asks me “so, do you know what it is?”
My reply? “jeans”
Then it dawned on me that she wasn’t stupid – for how could she have forgotten that she had just rung up jeans but that it was ME who was the “dumb-dumb idiot mother” (please do NOT steal this phrase, I patented it when I was 8 years old and I’m sure my mother is ESTATIC now that I can use it to talk about myself and not just her!) who couldn’t figure out that she was asking THE SEX OF MY UNBORN CHILD.
Cause you see, sometimes you can forget your pregnant EVEN WHEN BUYING MATERNITY CLOTHES.
I was truly confused though for a good 30 seconds trying to figure this dim-wit out.

Little Girls
I called my brother about two weeks ago, I think, to tell him that we are pregnant – he was very shocked and excited, of course. He’s been trying to get Alexis & Kyle to reach us but it’s difficult cause of the time change and their schedule and then all the traveling we have been doing ourselves.
Finally, Alexis took it upon herself to call me last night (no parents home only Other Grandpa) and the FIRST THING OUT OF HER MOUTH was that this bebe “better not be a girl” cause she “wants to be the only girl”!!! She had already had this conversation with my mom but phrased it as “only girl GRANDDAUGHTER” and we knew this was probably coming but I wasn’t sure how it would manifest itself – I had NO IDEA she would just come out and say it!! To me, she only said “only girl” but I think she changed her mind as it was coming out of her mouth. She’s very excited to have a little cousin coming soon though – they’ve been wanting cousins for a while now and actually started on us even before we got married. Kyle was luke-warm about it but excited too – he doesn’t mind if it’s a girl or a boy. I got Alexis all riled up by telling her it doesn’t look good for her – Grandma’s first baby was a girl (Leanne) and Daddy’s first baby was a girl (her) – she later talked to Leanne and told her this and Leanne and mom added that my mom was the first girl, my two Aunts both had girls first…and she just nearly lost it! HA!
Let the fun begin!!!

New York F'ing City!
Well, it’s safe to say that I think the bebe enjoyed his 3 DMB shows!
New York was a huge success and taking the train definitely relieved my stress from driving and gave me more time to relax. We had such a fabulous time strolling around all parts of NYC and spending some time in the snow filled streets (and slush filled gutters!).
For sure the hardest part was not drinking at the bar with everyone – I didn’t want to drink though, I just felt like an “outsider” to an extent. I filled up on ginger ale and just generally kept to myself since quite a few people were making it their job to get as shitty as possible before the shows. Going to shows sober has happened before, albeit on accident, but it’s definitely a different experience when you know someone “else” is experiencing the show also!! Even though the bebe doesn’t have “ears” yet he can still hear my voice and vibrations and I am encouraged, by research, to sing out-loud for the bebe to hear my voice and become accustomed to me and music that we like – it’s not a hard task to complete.
For some strange reason MSG sells SODA WATER!! I was in heaven!! After hours of drinking ginger ale, I needed a switch and SODA hit the spot!! And thankfully, I’m not at the Pee a 54204975 Times in an Hour point either! This was actually a high point for me, sadly enough.
I did get tired from all the walking but that is to be expected – not any more tired than I normally would be but I knew I couldn’t be pushing myself like I normally would. I did get grumpy at points and everyone was quick to chalk it up to Hormones but I think it was just The Bitch coming out – crowds can totally do that to me and to say that NYC was crowded would be an understatement. Matias was very caring and would show up with V8 juice for me so that I always had something to drink on hand. And everyone listened when I would say, “ok it’s time for me to eat” – that’s the thing, you KNOW when it’s time to eat and replenish your energy, especially after burning so much of it by walking around.
Matias & I were really happy to be able to spend so much time with my family – it was a great trip and we got to do so many things in such a short (!) amount of time.
2 DMB shows
1 Rockettes show
1 walk through Central Park in the snow
1 walk through Washington Square (I think) vendors
1 walk through Wall Street & Ground Zero
1 walk around Bryant Park and fabulous brunch at Bryant Park Grill
1 lunch at deli
1 dinner at Irish Pub
2 evenings at Mustang Sally’s
2 nights at Mustang Harry’s
1 walk past Macy*s Christmas windows (they sucked)
1 walk around Rockefeller Center
1 trip to Strawberry Fields
1 Mommy To Be tank-top (with PINK rhinestones!!) from Auntie Jean
And I THINK that is it!!! Of course, pictures to show for everything!!!

Cause Baby, you're amazing
Matias & I have started researching the effects of listening to music while pregnant which is rather important to both of us for obvious reasons...I found some great articles on the web (a rather fascinating one written by an Argentine who had a brother named Matias & Nicolas...!!) and started dreaming of singing and dancing (both GREAT things to do) for the bebe. They really stress singing out loud for the baby to feel the vibrations of the mother's (ME!) voice in the womb and the daddy (MATIAS!) to sing to the belly so that they can become familiar with his voice and not have him be a stranger when they finally meet :)
So yesterday (warning: HORMONAL Story coming), I was driving to the Cicero's house and my Closest I Love Song came on (Josh Kelly's Amazing) and I started singing out loud, like I'm want to do when in the car...and then I started crying. Cause I WAS SINGING TO MY BEBE. And the words, just started making me cry (not all of them) but the part that goes:
So come on let me see
I say baby you are amazing
I want to let you see
that you are everything and more to me
I will let you be I will I will
And the tears started. I still cannot get over that I'm singing to our bebe. Our bebe that doesnt have ears yet. But is swimming around in his womb :)
So now I have Michael Buble on and I'm chair dancing and singing along! Decorating the tree with Christmas Carols on tonight should be fun!!
I hope I just dont lose it on Friday night when we are the DMB show!! On a slightly related note, (HA! note, music..pun!) I am contemplating "stencilling" some DMB quotes on the nursery walls (esp. some Some Devil lyrics...).

Cause he loves me
From my dad (he rips out articles for me and sends them to me in the mail):
Danish, no Coffee - A survey of 88,482 Danish women, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, found that pregnant women who drank eight or more cups of coffee a day had a risk of stillbirth and miscarriage 59% higher than those who drank none.
WOW. Now I dont drink 8 cups of coffee a day but those results and the rate of that happening is just so upsetting. Why do people take these risks?!!? To risk a stillbirth!?!? or a miscarriage?!?!
But, thankfully, my bebe does NOT like coffee (even decaf) so I struggle with even 1/2 a cup once a WEEK. I've switched over fully to tea and we like that much better - I even drink it without milk and sometimes without sugar!!
