- Only Mother's know that they need to remember to bring toddler safe forks & spoons on vacation with them.
- Only Mother's know that one favorite blankie may not be enough. You just might need a back-up in case of Fickleness.
- Only Mother's know that you do have to put swimsuits on the list because yes, you just might forget them if it's not written down for you.
- Only Mother's know that sometimes you need a new set of (washable) markers for your big trip and maybe a new Charlie Brown book to go along with it.
- Only Mother's know that thinking of packing about 2 grocery bags full of food to go on your vacation is the sane thing to do. And also that you will probably still need to go to the grocery store once you are actually, finally, thankyoujesus, on your FIRST beach vacation with your child.

Thursday Things Only Mothers Know!
It is Thursday, right? This weeks' edition will be the Mama Edition featuring Things Only Mama's Know About Mother's!
- Mama's will not like it when their child just switches over night from calling you Mama to now calling you Mom. Just plain old Mom. As in "no, no Mom". Hmm, hello, no. It's not even Mommy for crying out loud!
- When your child wakes up from a nap & they are wet you don't really mind that you now have some pee on you from carrying him. But you will mind if it's a mad sort of runny doodoo. We just had both parents & child change their entire wardrobe. Pee...I could have lived with but there's something about fecal matter that makes it impossible to live with.
- Mama's will lose their ever-loving-exhausted-minds over losing the internal straw for their child's new $7 sports water bottle that had only been used twice. Of course, losing the straw renders the entire $7 (over priced!) cup worthless because those lovely people at Playtex et all do not sell replacement parts. But Mama's will also eat crow when they finally find the straw inside the rice cooker.
- Mama's will not get upset when their child wants to spend his time with his Dada. Cause you know what? They missed Dada too while you were gone.
- Mama's will listen to her boys changing the water in the fish tank over the monitor and think of all the wonderful things & times those boys will have together in the future. Some of them may or may not contain changing the contents of a fish tank.

Thursday Things Only Mothers Know!
I've decided that today's edition of Things Only Mother's Know! will be devoted to speaking Liamese. We had some friends over who do not speak Liamese & it was fun to translate & realize just how much we understand and think is totally normal way to say words now.
- Peter Pan can still sound like Peanut Butter. And every thing he sees on the ceilings is "Peter" cause you know Peter flies around up by the ceilings. Also every shadow is Peter. Dada's toothpaste is also sometimes Peanut Butter.
- He now says 'blue' but since he continues to roll his B's, I'm sure no one else will know that he is talking about Charlie Brown's blue car, except, of course, for Mama.
- "Dada water fish" is actually "Dada needs to change the water in my fish tank". It really helps if you know Liam has a fish tank instead you might just end up thinking that Dada drinks like a fish & you could be lead to believe that since he will also tell on you and point out all the beer in the house as Dada's.
- "Moon shoes" is actually correct since the moon in his moon book does wear shoes. But please don't confuse it with 'new shoes' which he knows he has three pairs of.
- Please, people, tell me honestly...when will he stop the constant chattering in the car?

Thursday Things Only Mothers Know!
Special Out & About Edition
- There are a lot of buses out there, even when school is out
- Water does in fact seem to be everywhere. The amount of fountains, ponds, sewage waste run-off that is around is unbelievable.
- Red lights seem to take a whole hell of a lot longer when you've got someone (besides yourself) hollering about it still being red. From the back seat.
- Advertising is all around us. Don't underestimate your child for they will spot the Coke sign in the gas station across the street when stopped at a red light.
- Although highly adorable when actually going to the fish store the hyperventilating & carrying on with excitement will not seem all that cute when you are only going to the store next to the Holy Grail of Hyperness (aka Petsmart)

Thursday Things Only Mothers Know!
First off, I'm here! I'm alive! I'm busy! I'm tired from staying up too late with my Olympic obsession!
- Sometimes it is OK to let your child push another child back. Especially if that child has pushed your child more than a handful of times in less than 30 minutes. Double especially if a few of those times we at the top of cement stairs.
- Sometimes you have to have your child say goodbye to their favorite fish, Molly, before going noni cause it looks like Molly is about to take The Big Noni herself.
- Sometimes it is OK for you to let your child watch Winnie the Pooh before going to bed, all dressed up in their pajamas, cuddled on the couch in the dark with you. Because you know this doesn't last much longer. And he likes it just as much as you do.
- Sometimes you find yourself thinking of ways to use maple syrup in more recipes just so that your child might eat something else slathered in his new favorite food group.
- Sometimes you wish your husband might go into the office so that your son might turn to you and say (again) "Dada go work, monies. Bye-bye Dada's car". Cause, wow, that's a mouthful.

Thursday Things Only Mothers Know!
- That if you pretend to pour Sunkist into his 100% Juicy Juice Tropical Fruit Juice he will drink it right up & ask for more.
- Summers do kind of suck for getting kids to a birthday party with vacations and such happening in everyone else's lives.
- That even if you put a chain lock thing (think hotel room) on your front door, that will only detour your child to the extent of now he just wants to learn how to use that & have you hold him so that he can "play" with it.
- Somehow their barber/stylist needs to be better than yours cause a bad haircut on your precious one is a lot harder to get over than a bad hair cut on your own head.
- When asked to narrow down Best Of pictures from the last year & 137 turns out to be the best that can be done, you simply shrug your shoulders & submit to it.

Thursday Things Only Mothers Know!
I often think of these Things that Only Mothers Know & consider that I never thought I would be knowing them myself so I'd thought I'd share & see what y'all have to add!
- That Dora, the Explorer's, head is too big for her to sit down without falling over backwards.
- That you actually have to clean their toys EVEN IF they use them. I thought the actual use of them would keep them free of dust and such. Silly me!
- That most of the trash in my car would NOT be from me!
- That Cookie Monster burps after every cookie he eats. And I get pissy when they thinking having him say "excuse me" makes it "ok".
- That I am so cheap. I don't buy anything that isn't on sale or practically above $7. I cannot stand spending more than $20 on toys. I don't think I'm "thrifty" either, I'm Cheap. But I'm OK with it, just didn't realize just how cheap I was.
