How's your toe doing, Liam?

A couple of weeks ago when I was Single Parenting it (again), I was trying to bake cookies and get various appetizers ready for a Crop Club I was hosting that night while I let Liam play beside me in the Fellow Proof lazy Susan. Turns out it wasn't so Fellow Proof as I thought it was.

As I was trying not to burn the cookies (don't ask), he dropped something on his foot & instantly started wailing. Lots of kisses & hugs were administered & at first I just noticed a slight scrapping of the skin on his second Little Piggie, blood was showing but there was no bleeding so to speak. I really don't know what he dropped on it because there are only boxes and bags of things (all closed) in there so it's pretty harmless for him to be digging around in there - just a side note though - we DID use a latch on it, he just figured out how to open it like the same day Grandpa installed it - so there's no stopping him from getting in there hence the reason we've just taken Dangerous Things out of there!

Then, just when everyone was arriving, I noticed that his This Little Piggie's nail was BLUE and totally BRUISED! No wonder we had the wailing that we did - that must have smarted something fierce but since it didn't show up right away, I had no idea he had such a big owie.

Since then, mostly when getting his diaper changed, you can ask him "how's that toe doing?" and he will grab his foot & check out the development of that bruise, shove it in my direction & get a kiss from Mama.

I love watching all the connections being made - he remembers he hurt his toe, he knows which one, he checks it out & then proceeds to offer it up to the Kisses Make it All Better Mama. I wonder how long I can keep asking him how his toe is? It's not completely healed & actually looks a little worse for wear *praying it doesn't fall off* but he hasn't forgotten about it quite yet!
