Change his sheets to his train sheets.
This has blown his mind. He's had them since he was in his crib & has noticed them before but has never noticed them before.
He sleeps with his crib quilt on top of his sheets for a little extra layer of warmth and comfort and after his nap, he pulled back his quilt to show me his 'woo-woo, red light' sheets. He was quite happy about it.
He then proceeded to ask me if Mama & Dada had train sheets also. Sadly, we do not. He even went as far as to go check our sheets & ask again. He thought it would be really cool if we could also have train sheets.
Ah, to be a kid again. Almost made me want to find train sheets for our bed.

Routines
I'm a Routine Gal. I like routines & they help me stay focused and relatively stress-free. Liam also likes his routines & has craved out his own throughout his entire life (all two years of it, right?). Some of them shift as his age dictates but usually it's more his personality shifting the routine to a better fit for us all.
The newest shift has been his Night Night Routine and for me there's something so sweet about it that I even tend to delay his to-bed-going to spend more time with him.
In the past, Matias & I would get him ready for bed together; Dada doing the pajamas (after I pick them out) while I clean up his crib & get him all set for bedtime. Hugs & kisses, lights off, music on, Mama out of the room. I say the same thing to him every night & it happens to be the same thing that my mom said to me every night until I moved out (and if she were to tuck me in bed again, I'm positive she would say it then too). The first time I said it, it just kind of came out, it wasn't something I planned to say, so to speak, but when the words came out, I knew it was exactly the perfect thing for me to say to my little boy.
At some point, Liam started asking to go lie in our bed before going to bed, I think he must have been sick or we had been away and he wanted some extra snuggle time or something, anyway...it stuck. So each night he grabs his chupies, his pillow & he high tails it into our room, up on the bed & points to each of our pillows telling us where to lie down. I have to turn our bedside lamps on & sometimes I need to be under the covers. His pillow is always between us & if he gets off the bed, off to his room we go.
Sometimes we practice new words we've learned, new tricks (jumping especially) or we read a favorite book together. But mostly we talk about what we did that day. At first it started out saying "night night" to all the things he loves & things he talks about. We say night night to garages, to cars, to trains, to planes, to cats, to Nana, to the bath, to the pool, to his bike...you get the picture. But at some point we started 'talking about what we did that day' and it's really a fantastic feeling to lie in bed with your child, all cozy in pajamas, talking about your day It's a really touching moment for me to go over our day together with him. Sometimes, I can tend to clock watch or I'm tired or have been struggling with a tough day and I can sit there with him and point out even the simplest things (like talking about what we had for breakfast) and I can cherish the day in a different light. It's part 'day coming to an end' relief and part 'man, this kid has fun and finds joy in just about everything we do' that makes it such a sweet routine for me.
Sometimes if we need more winding down time we will talk about what we have planned for the next day & this doesn't fall on deaf ears, let me tell you. This Fellow will remember everything you tell him you are doing AND will call you on it first thing in the morning. He typically will wake up talking about, from his crib mind you, what we should we would do that day. And will not let it go until you actually do it. So, be warned, don't make up jack about what you plan to do with him cause he'll never let you forget you said it.
We obviously didn't plan to have this routine, we just comfortably fell into it (which are the best routines to have, btw) and I think that's about 75% of the sweetness factor to it all. And I do love lying in the dark with my boys, talking about our days/lifes and skipping ahead in my head wondering how long he'll climb into bed with us telling us about his day & what he wants to do next...

What have we done?
I think we've created a train monster.
The other weekend Matias took Liam to the Clifton Day Festival and part of the thing is that you take the VRE train there & Liam has been constantly, I mean constantly, saying "woo-woo, red light" every since then.
The other day, after swimming, we stopped at the Manassas train station to watch the VRE go by. He loved it. Still constantly talking about it. Non-stop in the car he is always saying "woo-woo, red light". It's driving me crazy.
The next night, I went to Target and like a Nice Mommy, I stopped at the Manassas station again on our way home & waited 10 minutes, like a Nice Mommy, for the train to "woo-woo, red light".
Last night, on our way home from swim lessons, we asked him if he wanted to stop & thankfully, he said "no, no, Home".
But I think he must dream about trains. He wakes up every time asking "woo-woo, red light".
At Target, I made the mistake of going down the Thomas aisle & ended up with a mini-track set & red caboose in our cart because of it.
This afternoon, I spent a good 40 minutes watching numerous variations of this:

SCORE!
I was able to go to the opening day of the consignment sale & I got Liam a TRIKE! A gently used Radio Flyer one (cannot find picture online!) with a little pouch in the back. He's going to lose his mind!! Plus for this Radio Flyer, I paid only $18.
THEN I was able to score the following goodies:
New Retails for $90. I paid $7.50 for the entire set.
I don't care how much this retails for when I got for $3. The Boy needed another train ;)
His newest favorite show besides My Friends Tigger & Pooh is Blue's Clues. I had something else in my hand but when I saw this I knew he would get a kick out of it!
Retails for ~$20 as it is currently unavailable. I paid $6.
I also got this but it doesn't have all those parts & pieces which I'm kind of bummed about now...BUT it's awesome cause the tools look real which is a big selling point with Liam & it's not too many pieces to go lost. Retails for over $16 (can only find it on ebay) & I paid $4.

Little Lighter...
Matias' car seems to have some starter problems & has basically become kaput at the moment. This means that he will probably be using my car but that means that I won't be making it to a lot of our events.
Sadly, he has a 3pm meeting today at HQ (thankfully not MD) so he most likely won't be home in time for the much enjoyed swim lessons. I didn't make it to Cox Farms today cause Liam slept in & I wasn't rushing around to get him out of the house either...
I hope to make our playgroup on Friday though & I will take him to Cox Farms tomorrow as Dada is working from home & I will have my car.
Needless to say, we hadn't planned on a rather expensive repair. We had planned on looking at a new car in November after Matias had his review. I'm not thrilled about making repairs on a car that we hadn't planned on keeping. I know things have a way of working themselves out but I never like expensive repairs & since his car has over 150K miles on it...
Also since this means less events to attend it also means enforced time inside at home...which can cause issues if that's not what the Fellow is interested in doing that day, you know?
I know there are worse things that can happen & that it's not as bad as it could be BUT it still has it's own sucky qualities that I am not fond of, that's for sure.
Edited: Matias is taking his car in this morning so we should be "Good to Go" for the rest of the week. Pray for our bank account!

Unintentional Break OVER!
I have no idea where the time went but it has definitely been too long since I've last written a proper update!
Here's our schedule this week & maybe you can glean into our days a little better:
Monday - bird feeder playdate in the AM; swim lessons in the PM
Tuesday - Target run & maybe grocery store
Wednesday - Cox Farms (pumpkin patch) playdate in the AM; Consignment sale during nap (Dada working at home); swim lessons in the PM
Thursday - nothing on the calendar; Kym's due date!; Mama has a conference call after bedtime
Friday - playdate in the AM; revisit consignment sale in the PM
Saturday - Manassas Park Fall Festival in the AM; nothing on the schedule for the PM
Sunday - Dave & Tim O!Bama concert in Richmond
And on top of our regular programmed schedule we went away for almost a week (!) after coming home from the beach THEN I turned around and attended a 3 day local scrapbooking reatreat where I was also a vendor and THEN the Mayhews visited that Sunday/Monday!
I've also hosted a playgroup, had LeNelle over for scrapbooking, cleaned the house, did about 5 loads of laundry, completed all my follow-up work from the local event...and that was just Friday & Saturday.
We have been busy but with such fabulous things that when I get a chance to sit down, I don't have much energy to write about it :) I've been trying to keep up with my picture updating so at least there's THAT, right?!
It's no wonder I fell asleep last night on the couch before 10pm. I had every intention of going to a crop last night but diagnosed myself clinically insane after realizing I had zero energy left for that after our swim lessons.
Next week is just as busy if not busier with all our Halloween Celebrations going on! I have there costume parties next week and that's not counting the actual act of Trick or Treating! Plus swim lessons (man those drain me!) and a trip to another pumpkin patch/local farm.
I'm relieved that I decided (rightly) not to enroll Liam in the current Tumbles session; I was worried we would be overscheduled with swimming and all the other holiday events coming up in the next coming months and boy, howdy, did I turn out to be right about that!
I'll try and get back into my habit of writing daily and writing something of substance!

Super fun! Super easy! Super cute!
Liam helped spread the peanut butter & he rolled the slathered pine cone in the bird seed himself. He had a lot of fun doing it & has been very excited to see them outside.
I totally give this Two Mama Thumbs Up (obviously not at the same time as I typically only have one hand free at a time!) to this craft! Takes less than five minutes & just about zero clean-up. Give it a try next time you're searching around for something to do!

The Cure for the Common Depression

There's something about this video that brings such a calm, peaceful, happy feeling to me when I watch it. A nice quiet backdrop, with waves crashing, wind blowing, a boy playing with the birds (and loving it!), with family around watching him enjoy himself so very much. I don't think I could be at anymore peace with myself then I am while watching this. I know how very lucky I am & how very thankful I am for all that is around me.

Pictures Uploaded!
Just a quick note to let you know that I'm uploading Beach Trip pictures to dropshots if y'all would like to take a peek :)
And also, we are heading to Camp Carolina this weekend for a Michael Buble concert & an early CDN Thanksgiving so I'm not sure when I might be able to recap the week in words!
To add to that we are (finally) getting FIOS tomorrow (between 8-noon) so I don't know how much access I'll have to my computer during the day to get anything written. But at least I'm getting the pictures up before we leave!
For the record though, every time we get in the car Liam asks if we are going to the "beach home" to see the "lighthouses". At least I know it made a lasting impression on him ;)
Edited: It's taken me HOURS to get the pictures up and captioned on dropshots. I'm having multiple issues both with my files & dropshots. Not very thrilled at the moment so I'm heading to bed without finishing uploading ALL the pictures. Just think, there's actually more for you to see!

We're back!
Back from the beach & recovering from a week away from the cats, mainly, as they get so very needy when we are gone for longer than 12 hours! Not much free from cat time lately!
I've got all the pictures rotated and such, just need to go through & edit them down and all that fun stuff before posting them.
Needless to say we had a great time regardless of the wind, sandblasting & Nor'Easter that came at us on Wednesday! We were able to actually get to Hatteras Island before the road was closed from flooding but did not get up the lighthouse due to gale force winds at the top but Liam discovered his love for all things Lighthouses. We didn't get to play in the ocean as much as one would wish but enough birds got fed (bird bread! says Liam) and sand was played with so the beach scene was a success! Dinners were eaten out (Pepper! says Liam) & not much bad behavior from our Little Fellow just lots of fast eating on Mama's part to ensure we got out before Meltdown arrived & that Liam at least attempted his Eat Out Food (not much of a fan of eating out, this little one). Naps were tackled when they presented themselves & bedtimes came about on time due to the Nap on the Go routine we adjusted to.
LOTS of quality family bonding time for Liam through it all though. Hand holding with Auntie, reading & coloring at home before dinner time & playing on the beach. Nana's "beach home" was a big hit, of course, with our little traveler - even requesting that Mama get herself a "beach home" on numerous occassions on the drive home yesterday. Grandpa is definetly being called "Earl" in Liamese although we are attempting to change that!
Liam learned a LOT of new words this week & it was so much fun to tell him about places & things and have him pick it up immeadiately and understand what we were talking/telling him about it. Lighthouses, Wright Brothers Memorial First in Flight, Beach homes, Beach Bum, Beach, Pepper...and quite a few more were all added right into his little dictionary in a matter of hours.
I will write more, with pictures, when I get the time & energy to do it all justice. It was such a treat to take our little Liam Fellow to the beach for the FIRST time with his Nana (sometimes just Nan), Grandpa & Auntie. Cannot wait to do it again :)

Next Stop - Kitty Hawk!
I think I'm just about all ready to head down, across, over to the beach! Cannot wait to see his expression when he sees all that water! And run on the sand - I'm not sure how he'll like the feel of it but we'll sure find out, won't we?!?
Lately, Liam has really taken some big steps with stringing words together, making sentences and two word phrases. It's so cool to watch him pick it up so quickly.
The latest things he is saying are "chupie bag" (he commandeered a baggie to carry his chupies around in), "go to bed" & naming off ingredients in his recipes that he cooks up. He's got some others but I'm drawing a brain dead blank right now...
I'm just really so excited for this week - so many new things he'll get to experience! Lighthouses, turtles, sand, ocean, waves, aquariums, eating out often! Only suckerific thing is how much rain we are supposed to be getting while there. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be overnight rain or nap time rain, you know? There's an indoor pool (I bevlieve) so I'm sure there will be no shortage of asking to go there in case of rain.
All I've got left to do is pack up our last minute stuff - monitor, blankies, pillows, etc... and then we can HIT THE ROAD!

- Only Mother's know that sometimes you need a new set of (washable) markers for your big trip and maybe a new Charlie Brown book to go along with it.
- Only Mother's know that thinking of packing about 2 grocery bags full of food to go on your vacation is the sane thing to do. And also that you will probably still need to go to the grocery store once you are actually, finally, thankyoujesus, on your FIRST beach vacation with your child.

First Fishing Trip

When we were in CT for Luccia's birthday, we went over to this reservoir to take Liam on his FIRST fishing Trip! He thoroughly enjoyed himself; even managed to touch one of the fish the boys caught. He loved spending time with Dada, just hanging out by the water and learning a new Thing. This picture is from Matias' cell phone & I have some on my phone too but we have yet to download any of those (but we will be soon cause I got my new phone today!) & I will post them ASAP!

When I say Liam likes to cook, I mean it!
Photographic proof of my boy's insane obsession with everything cookable:
Here we see the Fellow using actual coffee grinds to make actual coffee in his non-actual coffee maker. He then added sugar (from his own sugar bowl) into the coffee pot & rebrewed it into the existing coffee. I'm wondering if that isn't such a bad idea.
Here we see the Liam Fellow cooking pancakes on the stove-top. He took his breakfast, got the splatter guard out & starting 'flipping' them on the stove. He would place pieces on the griddle & then gobble them up. Here we see him 'turning the oven on'.
Here we see the Liam Fellow doing the dishes. The one dish that isn't his & he shouldn't be touching. But the very one dish that he just had to touch. Here he is stirring his coffee.
